In fact, almost 90% of people are willing to pay more for healthier foods according to a recent Nielsen's survey. The study says that the consumer mindset has shifted and people are ready to pay more for food that boosts health and offers weight loss.
All Demographics Want Healthy Choices
All demographics (from Gen Z to Baby Boomers) say they would pay more for healthy foods that are deemed “natural”. This includes food that is free from high fructose corn syrup, GM0-free, and free from artificial flavors.
So what triggered this shift? According to SVP of Global Consumer Insights at Nielsen, James Russo, “While economic concerns remain at the forefront for consumers, health and wellness concerns continue to increase in importance.”
The growing consumer interest in natural products says that people understand food’s nutritional value and are concerned about health benefits.
Consumers Health Savvy
Russo also says that consumers are very savvy about what exactly goes in their bodies but want to indulge as well. In other words, “they want healthy and indulgent products.”
The way to consumer's wallets is through their diets. Products that are free from high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors are leading sales.
There is a huge need for vending retailers to reimagine their food selection and an opportunity to do a better job in addressing consumer's specific needs.
